Indiana Glass Blue Carnival Compote Candle

This vintage compote bowl was produced by the Indiana Glass Company, one of America’s most influential glass manufacturers, founded in 1907 in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Known for their pressed glass and later carnival glass designs, Indiana Glass helped bring decorative yet affordable glassware into American homes throughout the early to mid-20th century.

The bowl features a luminous blue iridescent carnival glass finish — a style that gained popularity in the early 1900s as a more accessible alternative to Tiffany’s favrile glass. Its shimmering surface was created by spraying metallic salts onto hot glass, resulting in a rainbow-like sheen that catches and reflects light beautifully. Originally intended for serving desserts, fruit, or sweets, compote bowls like this were often used as decorative centerpieces on dining tables and sideboards.

The ornate brass pedestal base adds weight and elegance, giving the piece a stately presence and blending glass artistry with classical metalwork — a combination commonly seen in early 20th-century decorative objects.

Now thoughtfully repurposed, this compote has been transformed into a triple-wicked candle, filled with 6.81 oz of natural soy wax. When lit, the flame dances across the iridescent glass, enhancing its color shifts and texture. Once the candle has burned through, the vessel can enjoy a third life as a compote, catchall, or decorative accent — continuing its story beyond the flame.
