Vintage Brass Mirrored Double-Candle Wall Sconce

This vintage brass wall sconce combines candlelight, reflection, and ornament in one beautifully decorative piece. A round mirror sits within a substantial brass frame, accented by classical shell motifs at the top and base. Two gracefully curved arms extend outward to hold taper candles, each finished with an embossed cup and flared rim.

Mirrored candle sconces have a history stretching back centuries, when mirrors were intentionally positioned behind or alongside candles to reflect and amplify their light before electric lighting became commonplace. By the 18th and 19th centuries, decorative mirrored sconces had become elegant wall furnishings in their own right, often incorporating classical motifs, scrolling arms, shells, ribbons, and botanical details. Designs inspired by these earlier European styles continued to appear throughout the 20th century, particularly during periods of renewed interest in traditional and Hollywood Regency interiors.

The shell detailing on this piece gives it a particularly classical feel, while the aged brass finish and gently curved arms keep it from feeling overly formal. With candles in place, their light is caught in the small round mirror, creating a beautiful glow and making the piece feel almost architectural on the wall.

Designed to hold two standard taper candles, it works beautifully on its own or as part of a collected gallery wall. The brass shows the patina and variation expected of a vintage piece, adding to its character rather than taking away from it.
