Westmoreland Glass Handled Bon Bon Dish Candle
This vintage handled bon bon dish was produced by Westmoreland Glass Company, a celebrated American glass manufacturer founded in 1889 in Grapeville, Pennsylvania. Westmoreland became widely known for its elegant pressed glass designs, milk glass, and richly textured patterns that captured the decorative spirit of early American tableware.
This particular piece features Pattern No. 666, distinguished by its intricate sunburst and star motifs. Patterns like this reflect the enduring popularity of geometric pressed glass designs in the early to mid-20th century, where light, texture, and symmetry played a central role in decorative glassmaking. The radiating starbursts and faceted surfaces were designed to catch and refract light, creating visual brilliance even in clear glass.
Bon bon dishes were traditionally used for serving sweets, candies, nuts, or small delicacies at gatherings. The addition of a sculptural handle made the vessel both functional and decorative, allowing it to serve as a centerpiece accent on dining tables, vanities, or sideboards.
Now thoughtfully repurposed, this Westmoreland glass dish has been transformed into a multi-wicked candle, blending vintage American craftsmanship with modern ritual. When lit, the glow of the flame dances across the dish’s deeply textured pattern, enhancing its dimensional details. Once the candle has burned through, the vessel can enjoy a continued second life as a bon bon dish, jewelry holder, or decorative accent.
