Cobalt Speckled Stoneware Crock Candle
This vintage stoneware crock features a rich cobalt blue glaze with classic white speckling, a finish long associated with American and European utilitarian pottery of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Stoneware crocks like this were traditionally used for food storage and preservation — holding items such as butter, lard, pickles, or preserves — prized for their durability, insulating properties, and everyday practicality.
The wire bail lid closure is a defining detail, designed to keep contents secure while remaining easy to open and reuse. Over time, these crocks became staples in farmhouse kitchens and pantries, valued not only for function but for their simple, honest beauty. The speckled glaze, once purely practical, has since become iconic and highly collectible.
Now thoughtfully repurposed, this crock has been transformed into a double-wicked candle and filled with 13.5 oz of natural soy wax. When lit, the glow brings warmth to the deep blue glaze while offering a clean, even burn. Once the candle has finished, the crock can enjoy a true second (or third) life — perfect for kitchen storage, utensils, flowers, or as a decorative vessel that carries its history forward.
